Ever think, “I’ll be happy when….”?

August 17, 2020

Do you ever think, “I’ll be happy when….”?‍

I’ll be happy when I get that promotion. I’ll be happy when I find a new job. I’ll be happy when I buy a new car. I’ll be happy when I find ‘the one.’ ‍

The ‘I’ll be happy when..’ approach is conditional happiness and, really, it’s short-lived when you think about it. The immediate gratification wears off rather quickly (and there’s a lot of science that speaks to this), and then we’re already thinking about the next thing to make us feel better. ‍

We’re chasing happiness, not creating it.‍

Friend, and we say this with love and as a gentle reminder, happiness is an inside — not outside — job.

No matter the (external) conditions, we can learn to (internally) create our own happiness. In fact, a consistent meditation practice actually helps us to realize that it’s not “out there.”

If you’ve been struggling with this, try our *Feeling Happier* 7-day meditation program to get your happy on this week.

You got this. 🙌
